Position Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, ensuring efficient event setup, facility maintenance, and housekeeping operations. This role involves coordinating with multiple departments, overseeing union labor crews, and maintaining high standards for event execution, safety, and guest experience. The Operations Manager plays a key role in supporting the Senior Operations Manager in achieving operational excellence and cost efficiency.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages/and or oversees team members in the operations department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the operations department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM Global policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensures successful event coordination activities by supervising and training Operation Supervisors.
  • Plans, organizes and assigns all day-to-day work assignments for Operation Supervisors, Teamsters, Housekeepers & other event personnel.
  • Manages operation supervisors in a manner that ensures efficient completion of work tasks, while promoting development and growth within the position.
  • Determines the most efficient and economical means of labor utilization to carry out assigned tasks.
  • Analyzes function schedules and diagrams to determine necessary labor for completion of assignments.
  • Ensures coordination of labor calls are completed in a timely manner.
  • Leads efforts related to allocation of labor for all events. Ensures that labor allocations are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Complete, review and authorize weekly payroll functions including timesheet approvals and PTO requests in a timely manner in accordance with ASM GLOBAL standard operating procedures.
  • Schedules and oversees operations staff, including labor and trades, connected with the setup, execution and breakdown of events
  • Assists with oversight of staff to ensure that the facility is kept in a perpetual state of cleanliness and good order
  • Works with Sr. Operations Manager to ensure that events are executed on budget and on time.
  • Maintains effective and productive relationship with union and non-union staff and all other persons present at the facility
  • Maintains good and effective relationships with clients and service suppliers
  • Coordinates with Sr. Operations Manager and HR Manager for job training for crews and staff including safety awareness, injury prevention, SDS and other related training.
  • Participates in the Safety Committee to maintain OSHA Personal Protection Equipment and ensure all staff employees are properly trained in its use.
  • Enforces all safety policies & procedures
  • Liaison with Facility Manager to ensure all equipment is maintained in proper working condition by utilizing the ALTUM software system
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws
  • Performs special assignments and other duties as required.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration and/or Management; Facility Property Management, or other closely related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of related professional experience.
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Excellent communications, customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills

Working Conditions:

  • Position requires work inside the facility and outside the facility with some exposure to adverse weather and working conditions.
  • Position requires walking the facility and grounds, climbing and kneeling.
  • Hours dictated by events.
